Roseville,
California
A
Lyft driver was involved in a multi-vehicle crash early Saturday morning that
left one passenger dead and another with injuries. The fatal crash happened at
around 1:25 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 near Roseville.
According to The Sacramento Bee, 31-year-old Lyft driver,
Shanti Adhikari, was carrying two passengers in a Toyota Camry when she
approached the scene of an accident that had unfolded minutes earlier. Amid
heavy rainfall, Adhikari swerved to avoid hitting a Kia hatchback, which had
stalled in middle lanes of I-80. The Camry left the roadway and struck a couple
of trees.
One
of the passengers in the Camry, 24-year-old Shane Holland of West Sacramento,
was pronounced dead at the scene. The other passenger, 27-year-old Brady
Lawrence, sustained moderate injuries, as did Adhikari. Holland and Lawrence
were both wearing seat belts.
A
Lyft spokesman said the company will continue to support those involved with
Saturday's fatal accident and they are cooperating with the crash
investigation.
